2019 Mullineux Old Vines White Swartland Mullineux Wines

The 2019 White Old Vines was left without additional sulfur on its lees until spring and matured in foudres and 500-liter used barrels for nine months. It has a fragrant bouquet of nutmeg, hazelnut and touches of white chocolate, suggestions of orange blossom developing with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a wonderful, tensile opening, hinting at marmalade, quince and subtle walnut and smoky notes on the finish, which has real gusto. This is a wonderful white blend from the Chris and Andrea Mullineux.

Built primarily on Swartland’s hallmark old-vine Chenin Blanc, fruit for this elegant white blend is strategically sourced from a variety of terroirs, including shale, schist and granite. Enticing citrus and stone fruit grace the palate, which boasts a rich, round texture and remarkable concentration.

Lush notes of crushed hazelnut, lemon meringue and baked apricot are enlivened by bright, citrusy acidity in this finely-knit, medium-bodied white. Silky in texture, shows hints of honeycomb and orange blossom on the graceful finish. Chenin Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Sémillon, Macabeo and Verdelho. Drink now through 2026.

A medium straw color in the glass, the 2019 Old Vine White is a blend of 74% Chenin Blanc, 8% Clairette Blanche, 7% Viognier, 6% Grenache Blanc, 2% Semillon, 2% Macabeo and 1% Verdelho. On the nose, it possesses elements of dusty citrus blossom, white peach and Meyer lemon. Medium-bodied, the palate presents a slight prickle of minerality, nuances of sweet citrus and a nutty and leesy texture. The white blend concludes with a subtly spiced and citrus-laden finish. It's a crowdpleaser.
