2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1. Cru Clos St-Jacques Dom. Fourrier

This also exhibits plenty of earth and sauvage elements yet the fruit profile is slightly higher-toned and a bit more elegant as well. There is a driving minerality and underlying tension to the succulent yet refined middle weight flavors that brim with dry extract on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This classy effort is at once built-to-age but not backward and should be accessible after only a few years.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques has a beautifully composed bouquet with joyful, vivacious mulberry and redcurrant aromas that open wonderfully with aeration. The palate is medium- bodied with very fine tannin, crisp and tensile with tart red cherries, crushed strawberry, raspberry preserve and orange rind towards the harmonious and sustained finish. The class shows through here.

As was the case in 2014, there are two cuvées of this wine in 2015. It's the biggest, boldest and richest of the Fourrier wines, but still has the domaine's hallmark sweetness and fine tannins. Dense, sappy and plush, it's an intense, mineral-edged wine with haunting balance. 2022-30

Knockout nose combines raspberry, darker berries, rose petal, minerals and smoke. Deep and utterly seamless wine with outstanding inner-mouth clarity and lift to its blackberry and floral flavors. Still youthfully tight but the wine's obvious sucrosité draws out the very long, building finish. Combines the silkiness of texture and the vitality of the vintage's best examples.

Good medium-deep red. Slightly withdrawn but very pure aromas of raspberry and red cherry lifted by rose petal and white pepper high notes. Dense, savory and very ripe, combining captivating subtle sweetness with a strong element of saline minerality. Not quite as floral in the mouth as on the nose, but this silky wine boasts terrific concentration and salty energy. The superb slowly building finishing flavors fill the olfactories and vibrates. A bit deeper-pitched--and more backward--from bottle than it was from tank in late 2016 but today the wine's strong soil tones only add to its potential complexity. This will need time.
