2017 Le Montrachet Grand Cru Blain-Gagnard

(Blain produces 1 to 2 barrels annually from the Chassagne side). This too is cool, pure and restrained with its notes of petrol and spice-inflected white orchard fruit aromas that are set off by just enough wood to notice. This is at once wonderfully sleek yet incredibly compact with its muscular, stony and tension-filled flavors that, like the Bâtard, are gorgeously long. This bone dry effort is very tightly wound and will require extended cellaring. Despite this, I would characterize this wine as a Montrachet of finesse.

Similar pale lemon yellow. It takes time for any nose to emerge though there is a sense of latent power. Always matured in a one year old barrel. It seems really quite discreet but the muscle is certainly there, and the length. Tasted: October 2018.

White The white peach and citrus flavors are accented by floral, hazelnut, vanilla and butter notes in this enticing white. The texture is supple and rich, offset by vibrant acidity. Comes together on the expansive, mineral-tinged aftertaste
