2014 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Fourrier

A cool and restrained nose displays a pretty mix of essence of black cherry, cassis, violet, spice and earth aromas. There is a sophisticated palate impression to the concentrated and powerful big-bodied flavors where once again this sense of refinement is enhanced by the dense but fine tannins that shape the powerful, focused and brilliantly long finish. This is positively Zen-like in its sense of harmony though make no mistake this is built-to-age and it's going to need it.

The 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet with maraschino, blueberry and violets blossoming in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit, blueberry and a hint of balsamic, leading to a quite a structured and dense finish that just needs a touch more finesse. I think that will develop with time. Superb.

Jean-Marie Fourrier's only Grand Cru vineyard (among his domaine wines at least) was planted in 1925 and 1956. Highly floral and aromatic, this is the most Chambolle-like of his Gevreys, with silky tannins, sweet red berries, classy oak and a backbone of crunchy acidity. Hugely refined, with a mineral undertone. 2018-30 .

Good medium red. Strawberry and rose petal on the nose. At once dense and brisk, displaying a penetrating quality to its seamless, fine-grained flavors of red fruits and orange zest. Wonderfully taut and energetic but also fine-grained and suave. Less saline today than the Clos Saint-Jacques but boasts terrific fruit and mineral extension on the long, savory finish.
