2010 Brunello di Montalcino Altesino 500 cl

Mid ruby. Smells like red- fruit squash. Strawberry sweetness and blackcurrant fruit pastille. Texture is juicy but the tannins are quite thick, even though they are soft. I find it a little too much like a fruit sweet but it's certainly fresh and bright. The tannins are fine but there is a slight bitterness on the finish. (JH)

Clean and fresh if slightly austere aromas and flavours of red cherry, mint and minerals. Full and rich palate with fleshy fruit flavours, developing cacao and liquorice notes. It's balanced and long, with lots of room for development.

Wonderful decadent aromas of musk, orange peel and plum follow through to a full body, with soft tannins and a long and rich finish. Salty and savory. Layers of gorgeous fruit. Drink or hold.

Altesino's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino stands proud among its peers. No other wine I tasted among the new releases in Montalcino achieves this unique level of aromatic finesse and distinction. The bouquet is almost purely floral in character with a strong emphasis on pressed rose petal, dried violets and potpourri. The fruit tones are less emphatic and include bright cherry and red currant. In the mouth, the wine's compressed texture is accented by fennel seed and licorice. the 2009 vintage had more power and heat, but this version shows elegant restraint.

Altesino's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is fresh, lively and very nicely balanced throughout. Sweet red berries, mint, sage and cinnamon lift from the glass. The 2010 is effortless and totally delicious today, although the flavors are quite fruit-driven. Readers who are looking for more complexity will want to age the 2010 for at least a few years, but it is already quite appealing, even at this early stage. - Antonio Galloni.

Menthol, leather, pressed flower and woodland berry aromas mingle with a balsamic note. The delineated palate delivers sour red cherry, sage and a note of baking spice alongside youthfully austere but fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. This is more about finesse and balance but it should also develop more complexity over the next few years.

Delikat næse med blomst- og frugtsødme samt strejf af kærnemælk og lakrids. I munden moden rød frugt fint holdt i skak af silkebløde tanniner. Smagningens røverkøb.

Så er 2010 årgangen frigivet fra Brunello og den virker lovende. Mørke bær, violer, tobak, mocca og vanilje i smagen. Flot struktur stadig med bindende tanniner. En god syre holder den modne frugt oppe. Fem store stjerner.
