2009 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Martinborough

This is youthful yet gloriously complex and perfumed on the nose displaying red/black cherry, spice and floral characters with hints of mushroom and cedar. The palate shows layers of sweet fruits, silky texture and fine, polished tannins. As it evolves in the glass, the bouquet becomes haunting, and the palate mind-blowingly delicious. A beautifully woven wine with extreme sensuality. At its best: 2012 to 2020.

There is excellent aromatic complexity to the spicy and ripe aromas of plum, dark berries, violets and anise. The lush and distinctly suave medium-bodied flavors possess fine volume and are supported by ripe tannins on the earthy, balanced and energetic finish. This is sufficiently round that it could easily be approached now if desired.

Ata Rangi is the crowned king of NZ Pinot. It has been making stunning wine for a long time - experience, vine age and a great vineyard site giving a competitive edge. This wine is a wonderful medley of fruit and savoury characters.

The icon is in fine form once again, showing all the haunting complexity and swirling grace that sets this wine apart as New Zealand's preeminent pinot noir. The perfumed, light, sweet rose petals are here - really sweet and alluring - along with plenty of ripe red-cherry fruits and all manner of fine-dusted spices scattered throughout. The palate sweeps out a web of finely meshed tannin that has incredible depth, yet carries an immense sense of delicacy and elegance. Bright cherry flavors run the gamut, there's some toasty French oak built into the mix, and the whole lot lifts effortlessly through the finish, leaving a tangy, balanced impression. Pale ruby - colored, the 2009 Pinot Noir has black raspberry and black cherry aromas with a bit of spearmint, chocolate and anise. It has a good core of ripe and expressive fruit, a low to medium level of very fine tannins and a long finish.

God balance. Sødmefuld frugt, mørke bær, krydret, smager som en pommard, der har været på kostskole og lært gode manerer, og hvordan man sætter en charmeklud. Fyldig, men ikke overgjort, og ikke overdreven slikken, ganske kølig. Godt køb.

Hindbær, jordbær, lakrids og eukalyptus- men slet ikke så floral, som Pinot Noir kan være, når den kommer fra New Zealand. I munden er der en lille peberprikken på tungen, men med fremtrædende smag af de røde bær, lidt vanilje og hyggelig kælder. Charmerende sødmefuld og meget saftig. Flot oversøisk og bourgogneagtig Pinot Noir i den absolut bedre ende.

Let duft af champignon og skovbund. I smagen masser af hindbær, røde bær, violer og strejf af vanilje. Let sødlig eftersmag og silkebløde tanniner. Meget flot balanceret vin.
