2008 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli Altesino 500 cl

The unique microclimate, limestone soils and position of the cru vineyard 'Montosoli' are the foundation of this special Brunello. The 2008 is absolutely gorgeous, offering lovely aromas of bing cherries, raspberries, spices, earthy tones with vanilla and floral notes adding another layer of complexity. This classy Brunello is balanced and focused with wonderful purity and a lovely inner sweetness. The fine tannins make a graceful transition into the silky finish. A stunning wine from Altesino that truly shows the unique character and quality of the vineyard. (Best 2016-2030).

Altesino is based in the cooler northern end of the DOCG, but its best wine comes from its 5 hectare holdings in the cru of Montósoli, closer to Montalcino, which the winery has bottled separately since 1975. The cool, north-east facing exposure of the hill produces very fine, almost Pinot Noir-like wines. Notes of mint and dill on the nose, with filigree tannins, refreshing acidity and a sweet, savoury depth. Very long on the palate, with a hint of reduction, this will reward cellaring. Drink: 2015-25.

Lots of ripe berry and chocolate character with hints of plum jam. Full and round with an attractive soft texture and a fruity finish. Delicious now but will improve with age.

Dark red with an amber rim. Intense peach, spicy red cherry and botanical herbs on the complex nose. On the palate, medicinal herbs and red cherry flavors are complicated by minerals and supported by slightly peppery tannins and edgy acidity. Finishes bright and aromatic, with hints of animal fur, leather and sexy oaky nuances. Richer and deeper than most other 2008 Brunellos but needs a couple of years to settle down. Right now it's not much better than the Brunello 2008 normale, but I have no doubt this will be the superior wine in ten years' time.

Intense balsamic and mint notes make this red distinctive, along with currant, raspberry and floral touches. Silky, ripe and impressive, this shows elegance and a vibrant structure. Offers terrific length and resonance on the finish. Best from 2016 through 2032.

Nu rykker vi en liga op med Altesinos enkeltmarksvin, Montosoli. Her bliver der skruet en tand på samtlige parametre. Næsen byder på udviklede noter af balsamico, kaffe, trøfler, karamel og tomat. I munden er den nærmest tyktflydende, syrerig og alligevel fløjlsblød. Brunello på topniveau til en flot pris.

Meget mørke kirsebær, tyttebær og noget mørk chokolade. I munden er den rigtig, rigtig lækker. Nærmest flæsket smag af sorte kirsebær, blommer, lakrids og krydderurt i form af salvie. Lækker vin, fuldmoden og saftig, dejlig struktur og krop, hvor opholdet på fadet virkelig klæder den. Absolut en af de bedre Brunelloer til prisen - og hold dig ikke tilbage med at servere den til kraftige kødretter gerne med krydderurter.
