2013 Condrieu Guigal

Just bottled in June of this year, the 2013 Condrieu is tighter, more focused and reserved than the 2012. It offers pretty notes of tangerine, mint, citrus blossom and crushed rock to go with a medium-bodied, fresh, focused style on the palate. It will be better in another year and have 2-4 years of longevity.

(one-third new oak): Light yellow. Pungent aromas of pear skin, mango and lime pith, plus a suave floral overtone. Penetrating, sharply focused citrus and pit fruit flavors gain depth, spiciness and a touch of honey with air. Dry, penetrating and minerally on the persistent finish, which leaves violet and bitter pear skin notes behind. - Josh Raynolds

A completely different expression of Condrieu from La Doriane, this is zesty and bright, with lime leaf and citrus flavors energizing the darker stone and earth characters that hold the wine firm. Those flavors last, held tight by a vibrant acidity that will take on seared scallops.

A bold style, with white ginger, anise and star fruit notes giving the core of white peach, pear and melon flavors an almost chutneylike feel. Drink now through 2017.-J.M.
