2021 Chambertin Grand Cru Henri Boillot

The colour is a little more vivid crimson than Clos de Bèze, the nose altogether more backward. More in pure red fruit, less softly floral. Ultimately there is greater potential here. The fruit fills the mouth more evenly, lifted ripe strawberry, coasts to a very long graceful finish yet with discipline. Has brought all the delicacy with a natural finesse of the tannins.

(near the tree line at the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). A top note of green tea can be found on the cooler, less expressive and less spicy aromas of plum, the sauvage and a subtle smoked meat character. There is almost painful intensity to the bigger-bodied and tautly muscular yet reasonably refined flavors that also brim with minerality on the overtly austere, compact and built-to-age finale. This is a ‘buy and forget you own it’ for at least a decade.
