2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Domaine Fourrier

North of village, 85% bottom of Champerrier plus 15% from Combe du Bas, planted 1928. 10,000 vines/ha. This came from his father. A pure coincidence that it was planted the same year as Aux Échezeaux from his mother. Firm mid crimson. Real intensity of red fruit. Very juicy and supple. Super charming but with some muscularity too. Drink 2018-2028.

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, the oldest vines planted back in 1929, has a crisp, slightly leafy bouquet with a light marine influence developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins, crisp acidity and plenty of dark berry fruit toward the piquant finish. Don't overlook this offering from Jean- Marie Fourrier, because it ranks easily alongside his Premier Crus.

Moderately saturated dark red. Classic Gevrey aromas of black raspberry, licorice and underbrush. Sweet dark fruits are complemented by a sappy note of pomegranate. Creamy-smooth in the middle, then sappy on the back end, showing serious medicinal reserve. Finishes firm and long. Compared to this wine, the Aux Echézeaux, from the opposite, southern end of Gevrey- Chambertin, is more like a Chambolle.
