2013 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Fourrier

20% new oak, 0.26 ha. Very deep crimson. Very gorgeous and fragrant. Heady. Wonderful bright fruit and then round and sweet. You really could wallop this straight away, until a slightly dry finish. Wonderfully vibrant. Fine and beautiful. Drink 2023-2045.

This is the only Grand Cru that Jean-Marie Fourrier makes from his own grapes, as opposed to the ones that he sells under his négoce label. Unsurprisingly, it's often the domaine's best wine, showing distinctively chalky aromas and flavours. Mineral and tangy, it's a hugly refined wine with subtle strawberry and pomegranate flavours. 2018-28.

Bright medium red. Sexy but subdued aromas of blueberry and violet. Smooth and fine-grained but also with terrific energy to the flavors of dark fruits, violet and crushed stone. Lovely inner-mouth tension and lift here. Finishes with outstanding mineral thrust and savory persistence. Fourrier's Griottes-Chambertin is often overshadowed by his Clos Saint-Jacques in the early going, but not this year.
