2021 Volnay 1. Cru Les Caillerets Henri Boillot

A beautifully balanced mid purple. The nose is brilliantly expressive, very high-class fruit. A wealth of equally classy ripe red fruit, with a little bit of the rose petals as well. Some astringency at the back from extreme youth, but the fruit is the winner. Very fine indeed.

The 2021 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru offers notable depth to play off its mid-weight personality. Crushed red berry fruit, blueberry, spice, lavender and dried herbs build nicely in the glass. The Caillerets is a bit somber, but it is also exquisite. There’s a lot of depth and dimension there. This will be a lot of fun to follow.

(from a .60 ha parcel). A markedly spicier and more floral-suffused nose is comprised by notes of plum, dark raspberry and a whiff of exotic tea. The delicate, but impressively intense, middleweight flavors brim with minerality that imparts a sense of ‘lift’ to the silky textured, dusty and youthfully austere finish that is easily the most persistent in the range. Lovely.
