The 2023 Riesling Deidesheimer Kalkofen G.C. comes from a site surrounded by walls, sheltered, and despite its name, there is clay on Triassic sandstone. Exquisite pale Reine Claude plum, with an edge of lemon, defines the nose. The palate is bright, smooth and gentle on the surface but zesty at its core. The 2023 is beautifully strait-laced with a welcome citric verve. It is taut and smooth at the same time. The finish is powerful, long, bone-dry and muscular. Wow. (Bone-dry)

The 2023 Kalkofen G.C. is deep, intense and aromatic on the calcareous nose. Round, refined and elegant on the first palate, this is a lush and balanced Riesling that is tight and almost astringent toward the finish, which is powerful and tannic and textured rather than vibrant. This wine needs time to gain in finesse, but it already drinks very well for those who prefer a more masculine style. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam 30 cork.
