That elegant mineral note is what distinguishes this extremely vertical, razor-sharp Nebbiolo. Medium-plus texture follows through with good power on the palate thanks to the precision and firmness of the tannins.

Full-bodied and fragrant, the 2021 Villero from Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a fantastic showing, starting with its pronounced aromas of camphor, fine pipe tobacco and ripe berry. Youthfully austere but already delicious, it has great fruit flavors of crunchy red berry, raspberry and blood orange accented by dried mint and star anise. Firm, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity keep it balanced and loaded with energy.

Taking things to the next level, the 2021 Barolo Villero also shows a bright red hue, with a touch more pigment than the Monvigliero, and reveals more intensity on the nose, with notes of sweet cedar, wild raspberries, lifted anise, and dried apricot. The palate is fantastic, with an even, detailed structure and medium body, and it offers lovely clarity in its bright red fruit, well-defined, ripe tannins, refreshing, even acidity, and a gracefully long, even finish. This gorgeous wine is truly a pleasure to taste now, and it will have the bones to improve and last over the coming two decades.
