95-97P+: Coming from a cooler, picturesque vineyard located just behind the village of Tournon, the 2020 Saint Joseph Vignes De L'Hospice is a much more focused, structured wine, which is what this terroir yields. Cassis, liquid violets, crushed stone, and graphite define the bulk of the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has flawless balance, and a great finish. Amazing nose of candied orange, ripe blackberry and smoke. Great balance of richness, precisely contoured fine tannins and strident minerality. Very long complex finish with so much smoky mystery. From a three-hectare single-vineyard that faces the hill of Hermitage from the opposite bank of the Rhone. Matured for 30 months in 100% small new oak casks. Drink or hold.

Wafts of graphite, black cherry jam, blueberries, black plum, wood smoke and meaty gradations introduce the 2020 Saint-Joseph Vignes de l'Hospice. Showcasing a firmer tannic corset than the Lieu-dit Saint-Joseph, it also presents more depth and energy. Medium- to full-bodied and packed with an exuberant core of ripe black fruits, the 2020 brings it home with excellent persistence on the complex finish.
