Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru

Chambertin er en vin-legende; den var at finde i de kongelige kældre på Versailles-slottet. Napoleon den 1. drak ingen anden vin og Chambertin var desuden den første vin fra Bourgogne indkøbt til Det Hvide Hus i Washington: "100 dusin Bourgogne Chambertin" bestilt i december 1803 af Thomas Jefferson. Vinene hefra er også blandt se bedste i verden, som Athos siger i De Tre Musketerer: "Vær filosof som mig, mine herrer. Sæt jer ved bordet og drik! Intet gør fremtiden mere rosen- farvet end at se den gennem et glas Chambertin!" Gevrey-Chambertins ikoniske Grand Cru'er er kendt for deres kraftige, maskuline stil, kompleksitet og intensitet. Perrot-Minots Mazoyeres-Chambertin kommer fra 1 ha med over 55 år gamle vinstokke. Vinen har en kompleks duft af solbær og jordbær, krydderi og lakrids. Elusive and ethereal, the 2013 Mazoyères-Chambertin captures the essence of this great site. Violets, lavender, sage, menthol and plums are all laced together in a deep yet weightless Burgundy endowed with stunning finesse and class. Today, the Mazoyères comes across as seriously tannic and closed, which is likely a good thing for the future. - Antonio Galloni.


This is markedly less elegant with its overtly sauvage character on the complex mix of red and dark currant, earth, underbrush and discreet floral hints. There is more obvious volume and power to the big-bodied flavors that possess both good concentration and excellent power, all wrapped in a serious, austere and rustic finish that presently is much less complex than the Charmes. It's of course possible that this will add more depth than I imagine but the Charmes appears to have more upside potential at this early juncture.

The 2013 Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru, which is matured in around 30% new oak, has a very harmonious bouquet with raspberry, strawberry pastilles and a touch of iodine developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannins that are suppler than the Charmes- or Chapelle-Chambertin, thereby lending the finish ample roundness to complement the structure underneath. Give this several years in bottle - this is a very capable Mazoyeres.

From his own 60-year-old vines, as opposed to those of Pierre Damoy (who sells him some Clos de Bèze), Christophe Perrot-Minot's Mazoyères is one of the wines of the vintage. 100% whole bunch fermented, although the central stem is removed by hand, this is a concentrated powerhouse of a wine, with lots of spice, well integrated tannins and remarkable underlying finesse. A domaine that belongs among Burgundy's elite. 2020-30 .

Healthy dark red. Highly aromatic nose offers scents of raspberry, allspice, gingerbread and wild herbs, along with a hint of wildness. Concentrated and creamy in the mouth, conveying a strong savory character to the red berry, spice and underbrush flavors. This was vinified with 100% whole clusters but comes across as even sweeter than the Charmes. Finishes with smooth tannins and lovely perfumed persistence.
