Chambertin Grand Cru Clos de Bèze

Chambertin er en vin-legende; den var at finde i de kongelige kældre på Versailles-slottet. Napoleon den 1. drak ingen anden vin og Chambertin var desuden den første vin fra Bourgogne indkøbt til Det Hvide Hus i Washington: "100 dusin Bourgogne Chambertin" bestilt i december 1803 af Thomas Jefferson. Vinene herfra er også blandt se bedste i verden, som Athos siger i De Tre Musketerer: "Vær filosof som mig, mine herrer. Sæt jer ved bordet og drik! Intet gør fremtiden mere rosen- farvet end at se den gennem et glas Chambertin!" Gevrey-Chambertins ikoniske Grand Cru'er er kendt for deres kraftige, maskuline stil, kompleksitet og intensitet. Gevrey kan prale af imponerende 9 Grands Crus hvoraf Chambertin Clos de Beze og Le Chambertin kæmper om første pladsen. De 2 marker ligger på en østvendt, moderat kølig bakkeskråning hvor små forskelle i jordbunden gør forskellen på de to Grand Cru'er. Druerne kommer fra over 50 år gamle vinstokke og der laves maksimalt 8 egetræsfade (228L) Clos de Beze pr årgang. Denne bredskuldrede vin har fremragende fylde, frugt intensitet og mineralitet samt en kraftig, fokuseret og bjergtagende lang eftersmag. En stor Grand Cru med et stort lagringspotentiale og som har brug for tid til at udvikle sig.

The 2013 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is a wine for all the senses. Powerful yet also delicate at the same time, the Bèze captures all the nuance that makes Burgundy so compelling. Layers of flavor build effortlessly as this sublime wine shows off its considerable pedigree. Violets, lavender, spice and hard candy punctuate the exceptionally polished finish. This is a fabulous wine in the making and real head-turner. - Antonio Galloni

The 2013 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze has a very refined and elegant bouquet with redcurrant, raspberry coulis and wet limestone scents. There is clearly very good transparency here, the terroir articulated with some panache. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. It is very focused with a sense of symmetry and poise, gradually building toward a spicy finish that feels long and tender. Excellent.

An enormous amount of thought and work went into making the wines at this domaine in 2013, both in the vineyard in the cellar, but it was worth it. This 0.4 hectare parcel is rented from Pierre Damoy, one of the biggest vineyard holders in the Grand Cru. It has complex whole bunch notes, great structure, without being hard or tannic in the slightest, and notes of liquorice and sweet, succulent black and red fruits. Delicious stuff. 2020-30.


Good dark red. Spectacular nose offers pungent, peppery aromas of raspberry, blood orange and white flowers, plus an exotic peach note. At once round and penetrating, offering outstanding density and precision to its flavors of red berries, flowers, crushed rock, melon and peach. Exhilarating, sappy Clos de Bèze with incredible intensity and length, not to mention a rare combination of volume and definition. Wonderfully suave, edge-free wine with captivating aromatic character.

A supple red, offering sweet cherry, strawberry and baking spice notes, with harmony and a subtle framework making this almost approachable now. Shows some restraint as the mineraland spice-accented finish plays out.

An exuberantly spicy nose is comprised primarily of assorted red berries, floral nuances and wisps of earth, the sauvage and sandalwood. There is a cool and restrained mouth feel to the mineral-tinged and attractively pure medium-bodied flavors that are a beguiling combination of power and refinement on the balanced and strikingly persistent finish. The Chapelle is a lovely effort but there is quite simply another dimension of complexity present here. Note that while this is very firmly structured there is so much dry extract present that this should be approachable after only 6 to 8 years if desired though it should amply reward 15 to 20.
