There is superb intensity to the mineral-driven, pure and ultra-refined middle weight flavors that are shaped by very fine- grained tannins on the moderately austere, balanced, saline and wonderfully persistent finish. A classic Clos St. Jacques of class and grace."

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques has a very precise bouquet with raspberry pastille, wild strawberry and a distant marine influence that is very pure. The palate is medium-bodied with a clean and pure opening, the mineralite only surfacing midway and then flourishing towards the complex, quite compelling finish. This is a very nuanced Clos Saint Jacques with a long spice tinged tail on the aftertaste.
Bright, moderately saturated dark red. Brilliantly pure, vibrant aromas of raspberry, rose petal, spices and crushed stone; here the terroir trumps the vintage character. Wonderfully silky on the palate but with a firm spine of acidity giving the flavors of red berries, flowers and crushed stone a youthfully clenched quality. Finishes with outstanding breadth and saline complexity, the noble tannins thoroughly coated by fruit. It will be a treat to try this wine next to the 2013 version a decade from now. - Stephen Tanzer
The most backward and powerful of the wines at Domaine Fourrier, this displays its terroir as much as the fruit-focused house style. Intense and structured, this is has flavours of sloe and blueberry, saline, oyster shell-like minerality, serious tannins and a sweet, but firm finish. Needs time. 2020-28.
